What on earth is ‘Bear Camp’?
Nestled amidst the rugged wilderness of Alaska lies a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike – NatHab’s Alaska Bear Camp. Tucked away in the heart of the Katmai Coast, this unique eco-lodge offers an unparalleled opportunity to witness one of nature’s most majestic creatures in its natural habitat: the Alaskan brown bear. From the breathtaking landscape j the unforgettable encounters with these iconic bears.
Getting There:
Getting to NatHab’s Alaska Bear Camp is an adventure in itself. Most people (myself included) will just fly from Anchorage to Homer before boarding a a scenic chartered bush plane flight past dramatic mountain ranges and glacier-iced volcanoes
The Camp:
Upon arrival at the camp, we’ll be greeted by cozy, rustic accommodations that blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The camp operates sustainably, with a focus on minimizing its ecological footprint and preserving the pristine wilderness that serves as its backdrop. Accommodations range from comfortable tents equipped with all the necessary amenities to shared communal spaces where guests can unwind and share stories of the day’s adventures.
Wildlife Encounters:
The highlight of any visit to the Alaska Bear Camp is, without a doubt, the opportunity to observe brown bears in their natural habitat. The camp is strategically located in an area known for its high concentration of bears, offering a front-row seat to observe these magnificent creatures as they fish for salmon, play in the meadows, and roam the rugged landscape. Under the guidance of experienced naturalist guides, we’ll embark on daily excursions to prime bear-viewing locations, where we can observe and photograph these iconic animals up close while learning about their behavior and ecology.
In addition to brown bears, the surrounding wilderness is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including bald eagles, moose, wolves, and more. Each day brings new opportunities for wildlife sightings, ensuring that every moment spent is filled with excitement and wonder.
