When you have something to share, it’s really hard to wait. Really, I (Deb) think it stems from mostly traveling alone. With my last few trips being taken with friends, suddenly finding myself alone in a foreign country again seemed really odd. I had become spoiled by having company and someone to share in my experiences.
As those who know me are aware, I often have a love-hate relationship with social media, but as I discovered when I was exploring Iceland on my own for a few weeks, social media can be the solo travelers’ way of sharing an otherwise solitary experience. Photos posted to Instagram, check-ins online…whatever the form, I found it really enriched my trip and made me feel like I could share my encounters with our amazing world in realtime and, barring timezone delays, receive interaction and feedback in return.
Anyway, these photos were all from a few days I spent in Amsterdam before heading to Africa.
This really was just meant as an extended stopover, but was a lot of fun and – even despite the time of year – I had been blessed with excellent weather. Amsterdam and the surrounding area definitely deserve more attention than I’m going to be able to give it in this post, but a picture is worth a thousand words (or so the saying goes) so if that’s true, please enjoy this novella.
